SALFORD RED DEVILS 28-16 LEEDS RHINOS | FRIDAY 3 MAY

Tuesday 7th May 2019.

A brace of tries from Adam Walker helped Salford Red Devils claim a 28-16 victory over Leeds Rhinos at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The win saw Salford climb to sixth in the Betfred Super League table.

The Red Devils almost opened the scoring in the third minute, when Niall Evalds was held just short on his 100th Super League appearance.

The hosts did open the scoring in the seventh minute, when Lee Mossop latched onto a Rob Lui kick to claim his first try at the AJ Bell Stadium for Salford.

Adam Walker claimed the second in the 21st minute, twisting over from a short distance.

Salford were almost in again before the break, when Jake Bibby made a 40 metre burst. Joey Lussick then looked to go over from acting-half, but was halted just short.

Mikolaj Oledzki then punished this by ploughing through beneath the sticks, meaning Liam Sutcliffe’s conversion halved the lead in the final action of the half.

Half time: Salford Red Devils 12-6 Leeds Rhinos

Salford started the second-half quickly, with Lussick darting over for the fourth consecutive game.

Adam Walker then stayed low to claim his second of the night in the 55th minute and fancy footwork from Rob Lui saw him extend the lead ten minutes later.

Leeds hit-back in the final ten minutes, with Harry Newman and Ash Handley crossing down the left flank to give the travelling supporters some consolation.

Salford’s focus now switches to their Coral Challenge Cup tie against Hull KR at the AJ Bell Stadium next Saturday.

Season ticket holders receive £5 off the advanced ticket price when buying in advance and under 16s gain free entry when accompanied by an adult, except 1873 where U16s go for £5.
