Nineteen structures and eleven product designs have been nominated for the Wood Awards 2021 shortlist – including a 1930's apartment, a unique room divider, and a former furniture warehouse.

The Wood Awards, which celebrates excellence in architecture and product design using wood in the UK, is a particularly rigorous competition; independent judging panels visit all the shortlisted projects across the two categories Buildings and Furniture & Product.

The buildings judging panel is led by Jim Greaves of Hopkins Architects and includes Andrew Lawrence, Arup; Kirsten Haggart, Waugh Thistleton Architects; Nathan Wheatley, engenuiti; David Morley, David Morley Architects; architectural journalist Ruth Slavid; and Andy Trotman, Timberwright. The furniture and product panel is led by design critic, curator and journalist Corinne Julius, and includes Oliver Stratford, editor of Disegno magazine; Rod Wales of Wales & Wales; and previous winners Yael Mer of Raw-Edges, Eleanor Lakelin, and Sebastian Cox.

On display

This year's shortlist will be on display at the Building Centre, London, from 25th October until 3rd December, as part of the exhibition World of Wood. This six-week celebration of global timber and global forests will demonstrate the benefits forest supply chains bring to the natural and urban environment. It seeks to build on the increased interest in climate change policy, highlight the vital role which forest supply chains play in reducing carbon emissions, and showcase the innovation and design potential of timber.
